Formentera To Run

Stage 1

After an arrival in Formentera of our organization marked by rain and clouds, as if by magic, when the competitors arrived, the island wanted to show its best, offering magnificent days of sunshine and ideal temperatures for the race.

The Formentera To Run, now in its 11th edition, has also this year collected a large number of participants, both among runners and Nordic walkers. The formula of a “sporting holiday”, with morning stages of commitment not excessive and the possibility of relaxation in the afternoon, has confirmed all its appeal.

Veteran runners and “new entries” started the competition last night, running the first 9 km stage at sunset along the spectacular wooden walkways of Mitjorn beach. A calm and blue sea like never before and the waning sun with its magical light have been the backdrop to the race, dominated, as by now by several editions, by Giovanni Iommi who immediately set ground between himself and his pursuers, maintaining without problems control throughout the stage and up to the finish line.
Behind him, always in great shape and back from a new record – world champion of the ten thousand meters in his category – the Olympic champion Martin Fiz. Following on the finish line, another Spaniard, Tono Garcia Ferrer and the Italians Mauro Gagliardini and Massimiliano Spinetti.

Before women and absolute esteem, the very strong Enrica Carrara, a veteran of Formentera To Run and many other Zitoway races.

Stage 2

Another beautiful day for one of the most spectacular stops of the Formentera To Run, that of Cap de Barbaria, 8 km: wild paths immersed in a protected area where the competitors were able to run in a truly pristine environment. The descent to the lighthouse, with a view of the sea as far as the eye can see, completes a truly enchanting journey.

A little attention the runners had to put it for the fund at times very bumpy and a little insidious, with a couple of slight ups and downs. But in any case the beauty of the place has rewarded everyone abundantly.

From the point of view of the race the athletes reconfirmed the positions of yesterday, keeping the ranking unchanged.

At the end of the stage the usual buffet prepared “espresso” with Italian products, cheered all the competitors, comforting body and spirit after the effort.
Tomorrow the third day of the race for the 12 km stage, with a finish line on the spectacular cliff of Cala Saona.

Stage 3
Third day on the island and completion of the third phase of Formentera to Run.
Today the chosen place was Cala Saona and its already famous cliffs where all the riders enjoyed 12 kilometers with something more than 150 meters of positive gradient.
With the exit right next to the Cove, the departure runs through the dirt roads of the interior between dry-built walls, famous on the island and large houses with typical Balearic architecture to be emptied in the absence of about two kilometers on the cliff with a wonderful sea turquoise.

Except for the first ones that are always concentrated to the maximum to obtain an optimal result in the race, the rest systematically stops and enjoys this spectacular view with the view of Es Vedrá de Ibiza in the background.

The most complicated part of the stage begins as it is a slightly more technical area than the others where it is convenient not to run and look at the landscape at the same time to avoid falls.

The goal, with a plate of fresh Italian pasta included, is a great party for everyone.

The ranking remains unchanged with Giovanni Iommi first and Marín Fiz according to which today they have strengthened themselves on the basis of a good press of a career rhythm impossible to follow by Toño, the third calsificado.

Enrica Carrara, the first woman classified was much quieter as her most direct rival, the Spanish Carmen Castillo did not press too much.

Great stage for everyone and great final party at the finale with an abundance of typical Italian products washed down with the famous Mari Mayans herbal liqueur.

Stage 4
The fourth stage has nothing to do with the runners’ imagination and the Illetes area has impressed everyone.
Only 8 kilometers have traveled today enrolled in this edition of Formentera to run but in a spectacular environment and with the perfect temperature.

The race leaves a pedestrian track in front of the port of La Savina and from there to the tip of Espalmador, where it happens to run along Levante beach to leave it from a wooden walkway.

The climb to Molino de la Sal is the only slightly more technical stretch, just before it runs along the Ponente beach and back to the destination.

The stage is short, but with all the sand there is, many cyclists consider it one of the most difficult.

Signing the Zitoway phase house is to combine the gastronomy and this time, plus some great feathers with duckweed, surprisingly good combination, they offered fried Gnocco, Modena specialty, city of origin of the organization.

Sports Party took a hard look at changing with Martin Fiz and Iommi fight like crazy for first place by printing a hellish pace phases and Toño García Ferrer defending third place.
In the female part, Enrica Carrara continues to dominate the race with Ana Brito in second position and Monica Gozzoli third.
